aset isekeshev(SRI) - Aset Isekeshev, one of Kazakhstan's most influential politicians, serves as the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and New Technologies.


In the last two years, Isekeshev has emerged on the Kazakh political scene as one of the most influential players. Despite his young age, Isekeshev is rumored to be close to President Nursultan Nazarbayev, and local observers often mention his name as a dark-horse candidate to be Nazarbayev's possible successor.


Isekeshev has been involved in various development projects in Kazakhstan aiming to increase the country's technology and innovation profile. Most recently, as the Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Isekeshev has been responsible for implementing the State Program for Industrial-Innovative Development for 2010-2014.




Isekeshev was born on August 17, 1971 in Karaganda in northern Kazakhstan and received a law degree from the Al-Farabi University in Almaty in 1994.


Following his studies, he first worked as an assistant in the Medeu District Prosecutor's Office in 1995-1997. In 1998-1999 Isekeshev was a Senior Specialist at the State Agency for Strategic Planning and Reform, and in 1999-2000 he worked as a Department Director in the Ministry of Justice.


In 2000-2001, he served as president of the National Legal Services company, and in 2001-2002 held various posts at APK Sunkar, National Consulting Group, and Ordabasy Corporation.


In 2002-2003, Isekeshev worked as an advisor to the Minister of Economy and Budget Planning. In 2003, he was named the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade and held this post until 2006 when he was appointed deputy chairman of the sustainable development fund Kazyna.

In 2007-2008, he worked as a marketing director at the Kazakh office of Credit Suisse.


Following his stint with the Swiss bank, Isekeshev served as an advisor to President Nursultan Nazarbayev from February 2008 until May 2009 when he was appointed Minister of Industry and Trade .


In a government reorganization in April 2011 , Isekeshev has been named Minister of Industry and New Technologies and Deputy Prime Minister.
